Daniel Pinchbeck on Life Changes With Filippo - Radio Show #80

Author Daniel Pinchbeck has deep personal roots in the New York counterculture of the 1950s and 1960s. His father was an abstract painter, and his mother, Joyce Johnson, was a member of the Beat Generation and dated Jack Kerouac as On the Road hit the bestseller lists in 1957 (chronicled in Johnson’s bestselling book, Minor Characters: A Beat Memoir). Pinchbeck was a founder of the 1990s literary magazine Open City with fellow writers Thomas Beller and Robert Bingham.

He has written for many publications, including Esquire, The New York Times Magazine, The Village Voice, and Rolling Stone. In 1994, he was chosen by The New York Times Magazine as one of “Thirty Under Thirty” destined to change our culture. His books include "2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl" and "Breaking Open The Mind - A Psychedelic Journey Into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism." Pinchbeck appears in the new feature-length documentary film 2012: Time for Change directed by Joao Amorim.

In Breaking Open the Head, Pinchbeck explored shamanism via ceremonies with tribal groups such as the Bwiti of Gabon, who eat iboga, and the Secoya people in the Ecuadorean Amazon, who take ayahuasca in their ceremonies. He also attended the Burning Man festival in Nevada, and looked at use of psychedelic substances in a de-sacralized modern context. Through his direct experiences and research, and philosophically influenced by the work of anthroposophist Rudolf Steiner[1] he became convinced that the shamanic and mystical view of reality had validity, and that the modern world had forfeited an understanding of intuitive aspects of being in its pursuit of rational materialism.

Drawing heavily upon contributions to the Breaking Open the Head websites forum, Pinchbeck's second book, 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, examines prophecy through personal and philosophical approaches, and offers the hypothesis that humanity is experiencing an accelerated process of global consciousness transformation, leading to a new realization of time and space during this period. In 2012, he also examines the psi or extra-sensory perception research of Dean Radin, the theories of Graham Hancock, his own encounters with crop circles, a visit to calendar reform advocate José Argüelles, and his direct reception of prophetic material: the voice of the Mesoamerican deity Quetzalcoatl, began speaking to him during a 2004 trip to the Amazon in Brazil. At the time, he was participating in a ceremony of the Santo Daime, a Brazilian religion that uses the psychedelic brew ayahuasca as its sacrament. Through its references to 2012 and the Maya calendar in the context of New Age beliefs, Pinchbeck's book has contributed to Mayanism. The book also details his acts of infidelity and his interest in polyamory.

Professor Emeritus William A. Tiller, of Stanford University’s Department of Materials Science, spent 34 years in academia after nine years as an advisory physicist with the Westinghouse Research Laboratories. In his conventional science field, he has published over 250 scientific papers, three books and holds several patents. In addition, for the past 30 years, he has been pursuing serious experimental and theoretical studies in the field of psychoenergetics, which is becoming a very important part of tomorrow’s physics. In this new area, he has published an additional 100 scientific papers and four seminal books. He is well-recognized for his participation in the popular film, What the BLEEP Do We Know!?

William Tiller is a pioneer in our new understanding of the power of consciousness and its effect on our physical reality. Since Descartes, science has had the unstated assumption that no human qualities of consciousness - intention, emotion, mind or spirit - can significantly influence a well-designed scientific experiment in physical reality. Doug De Vito, BSChE, MBA, is the Head of Planning for The Reconnection and has the privilege and honor of helping to bring this work to the planet along with Eric Pearl. With a very traditional educational background in Chemical Engineering and an MBA in Marketing, he thought he would be the last person to be a part of teaching and bringing this forward. However, that was before this work “found him.”

Doug joined The Reconnection in 2002, after working for 13 years in marketing and business development for Fortune 100 companies such as Procter & Gamble, AT&T and Walt Disney. During most of his career, Doug helped to create, “brand” and develop new businesses. He has also helped many new organizations “take root” and grow with a clear focus on their mission. All this changed, when one Friday, Doug’s CEO walked into his office and shut down his division. The next day, Doug met Eric and was immediately “struck” by a passion and curiosity to explore this work.

Since joining the teaching team in 2002, Doug has been critical in helping to expand and shape The Reconnection’s mission. Along the way, he discovered a deep passion for this healing work and has continuously marveled at the power and grace with which it unfolds in our lives. He established the first practitioner support programs and also created, taught and leads both The Reconnection Teacher Development and the Practitioner Mentoring Programs. More recently, Doug began leading The Reconnection’s efforts to research this amazing new work with the collaboration of Dr. William A. Tiller, Dr. Gary Schwartz, the University of Arizona and others.

Doug has also been one of the primary instructors, teaching hundreds of seminars with Eric, over the past five years. In fact, Doug is the first person selected and trained by Dr. Pearl, to teach The Reconnection Level I/II and III seminars.

Doug most recently authored “The Upgrade: Fulfilling the Promise of Human Potential” and was accepted in to the top 25 finalists worldwide.
